The Week That Was

Monday, March 24th, 2008 | located in Conferences/Events, Ribbit Events | No Comments »

This was and amazing week for Ribbit - public events almost every day. It doesn’t get much better than doing presentations than hearing the enthusiasm of your community, fans and developers. This week had it all - company presentations, press briefings, and the very successful inaugural Ribbit Developer gathering. Here’s a few highlights of what has to be considered our most active week ever.

eComm, 2008. March 12-14 - Ribbit did one of the keynote presentations at eComm, 2008 along with Google and Skype. eComm focuses on the future of communication and it successfully attracted some of the most forward thinking comm people on the planet. Cofounder Crick Waters did a stellar job of presenting the Ribbit Platform to enthusiastic audience and press response.

The “Spring Spawn”, Ribbit Developers Conference, March 16 - We went right from eComm to a big day on Sunday, when we hosted the inaugural Ribbit Spawn—a day-long developer immersion in all things Ribbit—in beautiful Sunnyvale, CA. We packed the house, brought a roomful of talented people up to speed with our platform, and said “WOW!” to the great applications that emerged from the afternoon hands-on session.

You can see what the Spawn looked like on Flickr.
By the way, we’d love you to join our new RibbitVoice group while you’re there.

The best part of the Spawn is what “Spawners” did once they got home. Thanks to Nate D’Amico for his great post. And to Todd Geist for the awesome work he did building and showcasing this app in this video. (Todd says he has a voicemail app in the works; stay tuned!)

Mashup Camp and Mashup U, March 17-20. The day after “The Spawn”, Ribbit’s Charles Freedman headed straight to Mashup Camp where he took a roomful of mashers through the capabilities of the Ribbit API. Feedback from Camp said that we were at the top of the list of presentations , and we packed the tables for the SpeedGeeking sessions throughout the Camp.

Under the Radar, March 20. We rounded out the week by presenting and winning the “Judges Award” in our category at the “Under The Radar” event in Mt.View. The “Under The Radar” event brings together some of the hottest emerging technology companies to showcase their company and product. It was again cofounder Crick Waters doing the honors of presenting Ribbit to the judges and audience.

You can view photos of all these events here and we’d love it if you’d join our new RibbitVoice group while you’re there.

Thank you to all of you who attended any of these events, especially the coders that made it to the first ever Spring Spawn - we’re already thinking about where and when to do the next one.

More March Madness - Mashup Camp

Sunday, March 16th, 2008 | located in Conferences/Events | 1 Comment »

Its a busy March at Ribbit. Between this mornings keynote at eComm, the Ribbit Spawn Developer Event (which is now officially sold-out) and our role in Mondays Mashup Camp, we’re feeling very in the mix with a lot of cool companies and smart people.

Mashup Camp is interesting because it brings a wide range of creative
thought, development directions and new ways of thinking together in a pretty
exciting “playground” for what’s possible. Since we look at voice as a
cornerstone of future app development, its going to be great to meet with
the Mashup group and just jam on what’s possible as we begin to integrate
Ribbit capabilities into a variety of development directions.

We’re speaking at the “University” portion of the camp (in good company with
Google, Serena, AOL Development, more) on Monday, March 17 at 10:45 at the
Computer History Museum in Mountain View. Chuck’s going to discuss his
favorite topic: how the Ribbit open API can add revolutionary communications
features to existing and future rich web apps. Good stuff and stay tuned.

The Spawn is On

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008 | located in Ribbit Events | No Comments »

The Spawn is On!“The Spawn” is the name we’ve given to this weekends gathering of Ribbit Developers here in Silicon Valley. The all-day event, which is happening Sunday the 16th. will cover Flex, AIR and the Ribbit API. The event will include hands-on development instruction to assure that everyone who attends walks away with the knowledge they need to create, deploy and generate revenue from their Ribbit applications.

As mentioned in more detail on Charles Freedman’s Developers Blog, there will also be a special guest to kick things off:

“We are welcoming developers with RIA experience, ‘familiar with’ or ‘looking for an excuse to learn’ Flex and AIR to build Ribbit applications with our free, telephony API. To immerse everyone in Flex, we will have the grandmaster of Flex himself, Adobe’s Ted Patrick, delivering a stellar crash-course on Flex, ActionScript and AIR at the beginning of the event.

This event is very nearly sold out. If you’re interested in attending, please send an email to Charles Freedman by clicking here.

Note: if you have to miss this event, or it’s sold out, consider joining Ribbit at next weeks Mash-Up Camp at the Computer History Museum, here in Mt. View, where Ribbit will be presenting at 10:45 on Monday the 17th.

Google, Skype, and Ribbit

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008 | located in Partners | No Comments »

We are pleased to announce that, along with our friends at Google and Skype, Ribbit will delivering one of the keynote presentations at the eComm 2008 event this week. eComm is a new show, being assembled by Lee Dryburgh, focused on advancing the “next generation of communication” conversation.

We meet Lee last year while he was in the early days of bringing this event together and he has been working tirelessly to assemble an unprecedented list of presenters for all over the world. if you are interested in the future of communication, this is a “must attend” show. As you’ll hear at this show, the communication industries are about to go through massive fundamental changes as Silicon Valley begins to apply its knowledge and processes to the fusion of the web and voice. As multi-protocol and open systems replace walled gardens and proprietary models, everything changes.

Ribbit will be represented by one of Ribbit’s founders, Crick Waters, who will be speaking at 9:30 in the Grand Hall. at the Computer History Museum in Mt. View, CA and last we heard, tickets were still available.
